Deputy Director
Dr Kwadwo Essuman Amissah (Change of name from Eric Kwadwo Amissah – Ghana Gazette No. 65, 31st July 2013, p. 1043) was born on 2nd December 1968 at Amakom and hailed from Asafo both in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. He is married with two children and currently residing at Flat 1, Masters’ Flats, Takoradi Technical University Main Campus, New Site, Effia in the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, Takoradi in the Western Region. He is a Christian.
Dr Amissah obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Art and Culture from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Ghana concurrently, on July 21, 2020, and a Master of Technology in Printing from Takoradi Technical University, Ghana, on December 18, 2020, respectively. On November 11, 2011 and May 2, 2011, he obtained concurrently a CoMundus European Master of Art in Media, Communication and Cultural Studies and Master of Art in Communication Studies from the University of Florence, Italy and Roskilde University, Denmark respectively. He had a Master of Art in Art Education from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana, which he obtained on June 11, 2005, and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Publishing Studies from KNUST, Kumasi, Ghana, on March 11, 2000.
His research interests include issues bothering graphic design – printing/publishing, bookbinding, advertising, productivity management in printing, research in graphic design, subject areas research, academic mentoring and counselling, developing course manuals and reading materials for students, and communication and media practices. He possesses excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving and achieves the desired goals, interpersonal relationships, ability to work under pressure, ability to learn new concepts, accept constructive criticisms and adapt to new situations and environments.
Since he was appointed lecturer on September 4, 2006, at Takoradi Polytechnic (now Takoradi Technical University)/Senior Lecturer on July 2, 2016, he has held various positions including Vice Dean – International Programmes and Exchange Linkages Office (IPELO) (from August 2023 to July 2024); Head – Department of Graphic Design Technology (from August 2021 to July 2023); Vice Dean – Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology (from August 2019 to July 2021); Vice Dean – IPELO (from August 2017 to July 2019); Academic Counsellor – Department of Graphic Design Technology; Hall Warden – Nzima Mensah Hall (from October 2008 to July 2009) and Assistant Hall Warden – Nzima Mensah Hall (from December 2007 to October 2008).
In addition, he has been and, still, a member and served the following Boards, Committees and Non-statutory Committees: Member – the University Academic Board (from August 2021 to July 2023); Member – FAAT Academic Board (from 2019 to 2023); Member – Career Development Committee (from 2019 to 2021); Member – Industrial Liaison Committee (from 2019 – 2021); Member – FAAT Central Planning Committee (from 2019 to 2021); Member – Quality Assurance Management Committee (from 2017 to 2019); Chairman – Security and Safety Committee (from 2017 to 2018); Department of Graphic Design Representative – Academic Board; School of Applied Arts Representative – Time-Table Statutory Committee (from 2013 to 2015); Vice Chairman – POTAG/TUTAG – Takoradi Local Chapter (from 2015 to 2017); POTAG/TUTAG Representative (from 2015 to 2017); POTAG/TUTAG Representative – Housing Committee (from 2015 – 2017); Organising Secretary – Senior Staff and Senior Members Welfare Association (from 2008 to 2015) and Vice Chairman – POTAG – Takoradi Local Chapter (from 2009 to 2011).
Dr. Amissah is a self-motivated, organised, enthusiastic, dedicated, hard-working and confident individual who is committed to his career and enjoys what he does as a teacher. He lectures students at the Higher National Diploma level, Four-year Bachelor of Technology level, One-year Bachelor of Technology level and Two-year research Master of Technology level. He believes in professionalism as a teacher, entrepreneurship, creativity, innovation, provision of an extraordinary environment for students to be able to recognise and develop their full creative personalities, acquiring the needed hands-on skills and competencies in their field of studies. He is committed to raising the standards of graphic design/artistic education in Ghana and beyond.
His main strengths as a lecturer are his ability to impart knowledge with great passion towards the achievement of practical and attainable results, his ability to work under pressure, his ability to accept constructive criticism and act on it, and his ability to assist in implementing decisions and policies in his department, faculty, directorates and halls of residence for the growth and development of the University in general. His hobbies are reading, writing, surfing the internet, sports – football, athletics, boxing and wrestling, watching films and National Geographic documentaries, music, travelling and photography.
